The stable yard at Station Farm, Stanhoe, which housed the working horses for the farm pre-1950's.

Chris Branch says in 2011:
"The two narrow openings shown had stable doors opening out on to this stable-yard. The roof extends up and over the barn. The larger opening gave access to the barn’s interior, but we never saw it used for access. In my time a threshing machine stood inside the barn in front of the doors leading onto the stable-yard.

By the mid 1950's there was no longer a need for horses, the last horse left the farm in about 1956. “Violet” was sold to Gigaroo Gray. Thereafter the stables were used solely for calving. I remember seeing day-old calves here. The unused access to the barn was kept as a covered bedding area for cows recently delivered before cow and calf were put out to pasture."
