An image of the now dried up pond on the roadside at Station Farm, Stanhoe. Cattle are grazing where once there was water.

Chris Branch says in 2011:
"In the distance, almost entirely concealed by a tree was Uncle Harry's engine or generator shed. An electric generator had to be started by a winding handle to generate electricity. Power was stored in a bank of approx 30 batteries in a separate part of the shed. I think it was 110 Volts AC - so light bulbs were not easy to acquire especially in later years.

The whole plant became obsolete when mains power was brought to the farm, probably in the late 1950's. Pre-1954, oil lamps with glass chimneys were used in Station Farm farmhouse to save draining the accumulated electrictiy, if it was too late at night to start up the generator. (It was dark out there!

Ducks were not a very common sight on the pond as I rarely saw much water in it, but in 2009 I hardly expected to see Dexter bull calves grazing on the pond area that used to be edged with both grass and stinging nettles. During my visits in the 1960's I was often asked to scythe the nettles down. This is an un-expected but pleasant sight!"
