2011- Farm Yard changes at Station Farm, Stanhoe.
There have been many changes over the years to the provision of a water supply for the farmyard and farmhouse at Station Farm .
Chris Branch says on 2011:
" The water-tap and hose are modern improvments to the Station Farm farmyard. Cousin Dick Calver installed galvanised steel water-pipes from the well and the water tower, to the troughs in the pastures and to this point where he placed a stand-pipe. Before, there was a trough which could be accessed by livestock from inside the yard and by Calvers from outside to fetch a pail of water for washing at the house.
Mains water is now connected to the old farmhouse so there is no longer a need for a water-butt here.
The five bar gate is now metal, and concrete blocks have formed a wall between the gatepost and the Turnip house wall." The "Turnip house" was the name given to the area in front of the bullock-boxes. In my day the cows were taken out of the sun, wind and rain for daily milking inside the Turnip house. It was also used to store the Pig meal that Harry mixed with water in a huge mixing bowl using a shovel. His Layers' Pellets were also stored here.
