This 48 page, leather bound photo album was given to Stanhoe Archive Group in the autumn of 2012 by a book dealer from London who had noticed the photos of Stanhoe Hall and contacted us through the website to see if we would like to see it. At that time there was no indication of the name of the photographer.
The thick card pages contain photos dated 1917 and 1918, taken mostly in Attleborough, and Wiggenhall St Germans, where Jack Eggett, (as we subsequently discovered his name,) spent a 3 week holiday between resigning his job in the Recruiting Office in Attleborough and starting his new job with the Food Controller in Stanhoe.
There are also 3 photos of Stanhoe.
Most photos have names or information next to them, all written in flowing copperplate handwriting. It is these comments which have helped us to build the picture behind the album.
At this time the Box Brownie camera had been in home use for some years, since its introduction in 1900. Because if its small size, and the fact that Jack used a motorcycle for transport, it is possible that this type of camera was used for our photos.
