Saints Alive: Stanhoe and Barwick Newsletter
June 2022
Parish Council Matters:–
-
AGM:– A good number of people joined the Parish Council for its AGM on Wednesday 11th May. This was a very happy event at which the Council formally awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Community Plaque to Ben Hanley of the Duck Inn in recognition of their significant contribution to the public resilience during the COVID lockdowns over the past two years. During this time the Duck continued to provide food and sustenance and thousands of meals to various charities including Help for Heroes, the Purfleet Trust, the Winter Night Shelter and the Kings Lynn Food Bank as well as cooking for the Ambulance and paramedic staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Duck Inn’s support work represented the best of Stanhoe, and we understand the plaque will be placed in the premises.
-
The Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations:– Considerable work is underway to ensure a fun village gathering, drinks, picnic, barbecue and games is laid on for the afternoon of Saturday, June 4th from 1:00pm-4:00pm in the Playing Fields and Village Hall. To request tickets, email ‘stanhoecelebration@gmail.com’ or pick them up at the Tuesday morning coffee meetings at the Village Hall.
-
Stanhoe Open Gardens Day, Saturday June 18th:– This popular event will run from 2:00 pm until 5:30pm and tickets will be available at the car parks (on the Playing Field and the Saints Alive Church car park).
-
PC activity:– We have a full Council and a number of projects and ideas underway on which we will report in the future. Please check out the village website ‘Stanhoe.org’ and Saints Alive for further information and the Minutes. The website is certainly worth a monthly viewing to keep up with goings-on in the village, property, society and Parish Council news.
-
PC Meeting:– Our next meeting will be on Wednesday July 13th. All are welcome so please come along and have your say, we’d love to see you.

And finally:–
A poem by Nathan William Fenn – a former resident of Stanhoe – from his book Country Lover, Country Life.
Day’s End
Sun blazing low,
No breezes blow,
Crimson cloud castles all aglow,
Seagulls seaward lazily drifting,
Grey smoke skyward lazily lifting.
Sparrows cease their chirping bustle,
Mid ivy leaves they rustle.
Behind the trees, red sun’s mere rim,
Eastward distances growing dim,
Western skies all afterglow.
Like jewels show
Stars of the “Plough”.
