Parish Council Matters:–
- The Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations: Stanhoe Village celebrated the Platinum Jubilee in some style on Saturday June 4th. While it was not formally a Parish Council event, the majority of the Councillors were involved to a greater or lesser degree. One Councillor posted a mini ‘essay’ on the Stanhoe website as below:–
“It may have been cloudy and chilly in the wind but people turned out in droves for the Stanhoe Jubilee Lunch. And after some expert organisation behind the scenes, and on the day, everyone had a good time.
“The doorway to the Reading Room and the fencing along the field edge was a riot of red, white and blue, and Union flags abounded, not only from on high but from the cupcakes made for a lunchtime treat.
Our barbecuing parishioner and his team of helpers worked tirelessly to provide delicious, succulent burgers in buns, or a vegetarian alternative, for everyone, which was much appreciated. There was a Pimms bar, and alternative drinks on tap including wine, and ice cream too.
And the entertainment flowed seamlessly on. A fitting start was made with a choral rendering of a medley of patriotic songs which everyone was invited to join in, and was completed with singing of the National Anthem. This was followed by the Loyal Toast to HM the Queen with wine donated by a local vineyard, and performed by our celebrity guest.
A competition for the best crown attracted some clever entrants, with even one seen on a minuscule dachshund.
Most entertaining was the competition for the best dog, which attracted canines large and small. Owners paraded their dogs around the ring, as at Crufts, and the judges patted the friendly dogs – but were warned off the one beautiful bruiser at the end! Rosettes and goody bags were awarded.
And finally it was off to the goal posts for the children, to show off their energy and skill at the Piñata stuffed hanging toy.
It was a credit to the organisers, and to Stanhoe Village. A good time was had by all, and it was an occasion to remember for years to come.”
Our thanks go to Stanhoe’s Duck Inn and Cobble Hill wine company for their respective generosity.

Go to Town Bus Service: The not inconsiderable persuasion from one or two Councillors in the past few months appears to have contributed to significant improvements in the bus service available to Stanhoe. We now have a service coming through the village several times a day en route to Kings Lynn or Hunstanton via Route 21 which is available to everyone. This will be all the more beneficial in view of the astronomical increase in fuel prices that we are currently enduring.
-
Defibrillator: There is growing interest and intent developing to raise funds for a publicly available defibrillator in the village – something to have in an emergency but hope never to have to use. Costs are substantial, probably in excess of £2,000. Any fundraising suggestions would be welcome.
-
SAM 2 Speed sign: The sign recorded 29,385 vehicles passing the position at the Pond facing Burnham Market indicating almost 60,000 vehicles came through Stanhoe during May. The average speed of these was 28.6 mph, but the worst offender clocked 60 mph at about 1:00 am on Tuesday 31st. Of course we do not know if this was an emergency vehicle.
-
Stanhoe Open Gardens Day, Saturday June 18th. As of writing, this annual event is only a few days away. Warm weather (and possibly downpours) are predicted, but we trust All Saints Church, the Village Hall and Isabel Lodge will have provided some shelter if necessary. We are confident that with all the effort underway it will be its usual success.
-
Parish Council Meeting: Our next meeting is at 6:00pm on Wednesday July 13th. All are welcome so please come along and have your say, we’d love to see you.
Stanhoe Village Screen:–
Stanhoe Village Screen are pleased to announce our second film for the summer season.
‘BELFAST’ (12A) (Drama) Friday 15th July at 7:30pm
There is terrific warmth and tenderness to Kenneth Branagh’s elegiac, autobiographical movie about the Belfast of his childhood. Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds are delightful as Buddy’s grandparents.
