Stanhoe Parish Council Matters/Reminders:–

• Meetings:– We held our most recent Parish Council meeting remotely via Zoom (video). Some other local parish councils are opening these meetings to the public in lieu of physical gatherings which are still banned. If you would be interested in joining us, please make contact with our clerk Wayne Leighton who will report on any interest to take part.

• Docking Recycling Centre:– Following a recent county budget review which considered the possible reduction of operating hours at the Docking Recycling Centre, we are pleased to report that, after making representations, we have been advised that no such reduction will take place

• Agricultural Traffic:– We have been meeting with representatives of other parishes, the borough and the county council regarding issues with respect to large agricultural traffic travelling through our village and surrounding area. The main issue is around safety concerns and road damage. This is being reported in the minutes of our Parish Council meetings, but as always, please feel free to add any input or comment you may have. We hope to have more to report on this matter in the near future.

• Mole traps:– Someone has been removing some of the mole traps on the Playing Field (this time from behind the play area) that have been carefully placed to contain these pests which are a nuisance to all. We ask that we are allowed to continue our struggle to keep the field clear without further interference, and we would be grateful for any information regarding the loss of these traps.

• Criminal Behaviour in Stanhoe:– It has been brought to our attention that police action has been taken in response to COVID related vandalism at a house near the pond where a family have been renting for 3 years and living in for the past year. If anyone has any information on this please contact the police on 101.

• Sam 2 Traffic Monitor:– We continue to operate the speed sign which appears to be deterring excessive speeding through the village. Nevertheless speeds of 65 mph were recorded in both January and February within the 30 mph zone, so our work is not finished yet!

• Stanhoe Website:– www.stanhoe.org is a ‘cracker’ of a site, full of information on the village and goings on. An occasional visit is recommended.

Cycling duo

After our 4.5 mile cycle ride on New Year’s Day, we have kept the bikes under lock and key, and had just a few short walks, mostly just round the block, totalling around 15 miles.

Better than nothing, I suppose!

Action Needed Immediately:–

The scheme to help victims of domestic abuse access help is rolled out across Norfolk.

Victims of domestic abuse are being urged to use the code ‘Ask Ani’ (pronounced Annie) at a number of pharmacies across Norfolk by the police, the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office, councils and health organisations to enable them to get access to help.

The Ask for ANI (Action Needed Immediately) scheme was launched by the Home Office earlier this month to allow those suffering from abuse to discreetly signal they need help and support at a time where many victims are isolated at home with little opportunity to go out and access services.

The scheme has so far been adopted by all 2,300 Boots stores across the UK and includes stores across Norfolk and is growing in momentum with independent pharmacies signing up.

“We welcome the introduction of this scheme and hope as many pharmacies as possible across Norfolk will take part – we must do all we can to protect those for whom home is not a safe space.”

Andy Coller, head of safeguarding for Norfolk Constabulary and Vice-Chair of the DASVG, said that the police are prepared for the Ask Ani calls coming in through the pharmacy network.

He added: “Throughout the pandemic we have worked with partners to reach out to victims of domestic abuse and have promoted various ways to get in touch with support services. Ask Ani provides another opportunity for victims of this terrible crime to seek help.”

Participating pharmacies of the scheme, which went live on January 14, will be displaying Ask Ani posters in their windows. When someone uses the code words, a trained pharmacy worker will offer a private space where they can speak freely and contact the police or get access to support services or a domestic abuse helpline.

New Cancer Unit at Cromer Hospital:–

The Macmillan Cancer Charity are spending £2.2 million building a new cancer unit at Cromer Hospital. The new unit will open this summer and will have 6 chemotherapy chairs, capable of treating 36 patients daily, 3 new clinic rooms and 2 minor procedures rooms creating space for cancer diagnostics. The unit will be able to take 10,000 patient appointments annually and there will be a Macmillan information service.
