Stanhoe Parish Council Matters/Reminders:–

• Council Meeting:– We actually met together in the Reading Room on May 13th for the first time since March 2020. Unfortunately in the end we were not permitted to have wide public attendance, but we covered a wide range of issues including the recent Housing Needs Survey, the Tourism review, the Playing Fields and play equipment, Council insurance needs and renewal, Highway issues, speeding (again!) Planning Approvals and the year-end accounts as well as the other items mentioned below. It almost felt like back to normal.

• Village Spring Clean:– Don’t forget! Saturday June 12th 10:30am, at the Reading Room/Village Hall, Cross Lane. P lease join us for a short ‘stint’ to help clean up litter around Stanhoe. We’ll provide bags but bring gloves. All welcome and appreciated.

• Geese:– The newly refurbished pond has attracted a large increase in wildfowl this year including two beautiful Egyptian geese. Unfortunately they are creating some havoc amongst the ducks who want them to leave, but not one of them speaks Egyptian!

• SAM 2 Sign:– Our speed sign has been busy again; in both March and April over 15,000 vehicles passed the sign (which was somewhere in the 30 mph zone) as speeds of up to 55 and 65 mph were recorded respectively. Still on the lookout for ideas (without turning Stanhoe into a police state!)

• Road closure at Pond:– It may be too late to remind everyone of the road closure at the pond crossroads which is due to take effect on May 27th.

• The Next Parish Council Meeting will take place at 6:00pm on 15th July 2021 in the Reading Room, Cross Lane. Please keep an eye out for the agenda on stanhoe.org as this will detail whether or not government restrictions allow for members of the public to attend the meeting.

• Become a Parish Councillor:– Do you have a couple of hours to spare every other month? Do you want to have a say in what happens in your village? We currently have room for one more so if you would like to become a Stanhoe Parish Councillor please contact the Chairman, David Lord, through Wayne Leighton, Parish Clerk at for more information.

Retiring the bikes:–

Our intrepid cycling twosome will be hanging up their bicycle clips for the near future but hopefully gentle exercise will return soon. Wishing you well.

Stanhoe Open Gardens:– Saturday 17th July, 2:00pm to 5:30pm

Stanhoe Open Gardens Day is always a great day out with an excellent opportunity to visit our beautiful gardens. This year nine gardens will be open with stalls for Cakes, Produce, Plants and Books as well as a Vintage Stall and tombola.

Cream Teas will be available at Isabel Lodge and there will be an exhibition of paintings by two local artists in All Saints’ Church.

The Anne Robson Trust:–

I live in West Norfolk and I am writing to you to let you and your parish councillors know about a unique nationwide telephone helpline service which has recently been launched by The Anne Robson Trust. I am one of 14 volunteer call handlers across the country that have been recruited by the charity and have been given extensive training in order to be able to listen and offer support to callers.

The helpline is for anyone who is struggling to cope with a terminal diagnosis or the imminent death of someone they care about. Whether they are family members, friends or neighbours they may just need someone to talk to, or indeed just listen to how they are feeling, to help them get through this difficult time.

Prior to the pandemic, the charity was already working with 5 partnership hospitals in the East of England and Hertfordshire, including The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and The James Padget hospital in Norfolk and were in discussions with several others to train ‘Butterfly volunteers’ who sit with patients in hospital who often have no visitors and face being alone in their last days or hours of life.

However, due to COVID restrictions the charity was forced to withdraw their volunteers from the hospitals, and in response to this, decided to set up its nationwide helpline as more and more people have sadly been unable to visit their loved ones dying alone in hospital. We passionately believe that No one deserves to die alone. As restrictions lift our volunteers are gradually starting to return and the helpline continues to offer another means of assessing support.

The helpline number is 0808 801 0688. The service is confidential, free to call and operates 5 days a week – more information and a short video about the work we do can be found on our website – www.annerobsontrust.org.uk.
