September 2020

Stay alert – Control the virus – Save lives

Stanhoe Parish Council Matters:–

Go to Town Bus Service:–

We are pleased to confirm the Go To Town Bus 21 (for Kings Lynn) is now coming to Stanhoe on Saturday as well as on weekdays, and details/ timetables are available on the website www.gtt-online.co.uk or by phoning 01553 776971.

There are further services from Docking and it is hoped that many will use this precious commodity to village residents and others. You are advised to check the bus times as timetables are subject to change.

Playground:–

With some ‘mixed signals’ being received from the relevant authorities, and with the equipment under active use, we decided to put up signs permitting the continued use of the Playground but with the express warning that as we are in no position to sterilise the equipment or monitor its usage, and stating such activity was at the risk of the individual. The signs further recommend hands are sanitised before and after each visit. We will continue to monitor the situation.

Village Clean – Saturday 19th September:–

We are holding our long delayed, socially distanced, litter pick on the morning of the 19th September, meeting at the Reading Room/Village Hall at 10:00 am if the weather permits. This will not take very long, and bags will be supplied. Please bring your own gloves and sanitiser – do join us.

Better Broadband for Norfolk (BBfN):–

The majority of the work to upgrade to fibre broadband in the village is now complete and many residents are already benefitting from much faster broadband speeds and, in some cases, cheaper contracts too. If you have not yet ‘upgraded’ you may wish to consider doing so; you can start by checking availability here https://www.bt.com/broadband/full-fibre or by talking to your current Internet Service Provider.

  • Should you wish to raise any issue, please contact the Clerk on 07789 887380 or ‘parishclerk@stanhoe.org’.

Stanhoe open gardens: keep checking the website – www.stanhoe.org

Due to the cancellation of Open Gardens in Stanhoe this year, it has been decided instead to have what we hope will be the first, and only “Virtual Open Gardens” on the Stanhoe website.

The owners of the eight gardens which would have been opened are to submit photographs and descriptions of some aspect of their gardens to our webmaster, and we hope that the feature will be available to view towards the end of June, for those who are able to use the internet. There is a provisional plan to hold a public exhibition in the Reading Room later in the year, as well.

Cycling duo:–

Over 524 miles since lockdown and still going strong – well done!!

And finally: a poem by Cory Booker

We can’t touch
But we still reach out

We hunker down
But we still rise up

Our bodies are attacked
But our spirits fight back

The enemy is invisible
But so many of our heroes are now seen

Weeks and weeks of isolation
But still infinite and invincible determination

We are distant
But we stand together

And together
We shall overcome.
