Stanhoe Parish Council Matters:–

Clear the Decks! – Village Spring Clean:–

Once again Stanhoe is joining the national Spring Clean effort.

We need all hands on Saturday April 4th at 10:30am (if the weather is ok) to join in a litter pick-up. Bags provided, starting at the Village Hall and taking about 1 hour. Bring gloves.

Council:–

Our next meeting is at 6:00pm on Thursday March 12th in the Village Hall (The Reading Room). All are welcome.

Finally:–

Burns Night Supper & Dancing:–

Bookings for the MEHM Trust Burns Night Supper and Dancing organised by Laura Pocock Faulks, were slow to get going in the New Year and with two weeks to go, only 13 people had booked and that included the eight dancers! Despite the fantastic ticket price of just £8.50 including a main course of slow cooked beef in red wine, horseradish and wholegrain mustard mash, spiced red cabbage, haggis and choice of Cranachan and whisky and marmalade bread and butter puddings and dancing, it was looking like we might have to cancel. However, a group of 20 booked and the word spread and suddenly we were fully booked. In fact, in the end we had a waiting list of over a dozen people!

The evening kicked off with the ‘Address to the Haggis’ followed by ‘the best Burns Night Supper I’ve ever had’ according to one Scottish guest, praise indeed!

Then the South Creake Scottish Dancing Group took the floor and demonstrated dances after which the guests could join in, expertly guided by Bob Carrick and his dancers. What the guests lacked in skill they certainly made up for with enthusiasm. A few songs were sung and poems read and reeling went on well into the night and a grand time was had by all.

Remember to book early next year to avoid disappointment!

Keep your eye out for Saints Alive for exciting Spring, Summer and Autumn events at Stanhoe Village Hall & Reading Room and Playing Field still to come this year.

WI events

Rural Life in a Distant Country:–

Thursday 5th March at 2:00pm: Juyna Lewis will talk about her Bangladeshi Childhood. This is an Open Meeting. Visitors are very welcome; we charge just £3, to include refreshments.

Keep Fit!:–

Thursday 2nd April at 2:00pm:– Claire Barker, with ideas for keep fit exercises, suitable for all.

Stanhoe Open Gardens:–

This year’s Open Gardens will be on Saturday 30th May 2020. Entry £5 to visit ALL the gardens, children under 12 go free.

A variety of gardens will be open in Stanhoe and Barwick from 2:00pm till 5:30pm. All are welcome to come and have a look around and enjoy the various stalls, including tombola, cakes, plants, books and bric a brac. There will be cream teas at Isabel Lodge and an exhibition of flowers in All Saints’ Church.

In recent years the Open Gardens has attracted more than 200 visitors, many of whom have commented on the friendly welcome they receive in Stanhoe! This is made possible by the enthusiasm of volunteers who offer their time on the afternoon to help out on the stalls and serve tea. The stalls rely on the kind contributions of friends and neighbours, so if you are able to offer cakes, plants, books, tombola prizes or bric a brac we would be very grateful!
