WI notices:–

Thursday 7th September:– 2:30pm at the Reading Room – our monthly meeting. The speaker will be Rob Smith MBE, the harbour master from Wells-next-the-Sea.

Thursday 21st September:– at 3:00pm – afternoon tea at Jane’s Coffee Corner, East Rudham

Advance notice:– our autumn lunch at The Lifeboat, Thornham on Thursday 26th October

Parish Council News:–

• Go to Town Bus Service:– We are pleased to announce that from Sept 4th West Norfolk Community Transport, with Stanhoe Council’s support, will be providing a bus service to King’s Lynn (3 times on weekday ‘mornings’ with 4 afternoon returns, and 2 return trips on Saturdays). This is also a ‘hail and ride’ service, where safe to do so, and we very much hope residents will make maximum use of this service, details of which are attached. We welcome any comments regarding this new arrangement for the community.

• Dog Mess:– We need to ask dog walkers to ensure they pick up any mess, particularly around the playfield but also, generally in the village. It’s a difficult problem for us to solve, and a lot easier for the owners/walkers involved!

• Speed Sign:– The SAM sign is due to be commissioned soon. In addition to warning drivers, our unit will also record the time and speed of individual ‘excesses’. This will provide invaluable information for the Council to make further representations if necessary (!)

• Parish Council Meeting:– The next Parish Council Meeting will take place at 7. 00pm on 21st September in the Reading Room, Cross Lane. All residents are most welcome to attend.

Friday September 15th with ‘Viceroy’s House’ (12A) History/drama

The final Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, is tasked with overseeing the transition of British India to independence. Seventy years after the partition of India, director Gurinder Chadha delivers this poignant tribute to the millions of Indians who were uprooted or killed in what remains the largest mass migration of people in history.

Tickets £5 on the door to include a complimentary drink. Doors open 7:00pm.

Charity Vacancy:–

In 2018, the Sedgeford branch of The Royal British Legion will be seeking assistance, as the current Poppy Appeal Organiser is to stand down after a number of years of doing the job. The work involves placing the order for supplies, and after delivery, assembling and delivering collecting boxes and supplies to our house to house collectors, businesses, and churches throughout the branch. In due course, all the left over items are collected again, and the donations counted and banked. No house to house or street collecting is involved, and delivered are made to a number of intermediaries who then deliver the goods to the collectors, businesses etc. It may be advantageous to ‘understudy’ the incumbent this year, and anyone interested is asked to contact Pamela on 518033. You do NOT need to be a member of the Legion to undertake this work. All out of pocket expenses can be claimed.

Brancaster Camera Club:–

We start our Autumn programme on Tuesday, 26th September with an illustrated talk by Allan Livingstone on ‘Bugs & Butterflies’. This will be an interesting evening for anyone interested in nature photography & macro work in particular.

We had a successful exhibition in August with a high standard of work and wide variety of subjects.

The winners were:

• 1st Geoff Lea ‘Sunlit Pianist’
• 2nd John Barker ‘Duck Duet’
• 3rd Noel Robinson ‘Lone Walker’

The Peoples’ Choice was Geoff Lea’s ‘Springtide at Thornham’.
