Japanese Knotweed – The Parish Council has again been made aware of Japanese Knotweed in the area to the rear of ‘The Green’. Norfolk County Council has acknowledged that the Japanese Knotweed is on highways land and will therefore instruct a weed-spraying contractor to inspect and treat in the autumn; treatment will then continue on an annual basis.

Stanhoe Village Screen reminder:–
Our Spring/summer season ends on Friday July 7th with ‘Hidden Figures’(PG) true story/drama.
Putting man on the moon is one of humanity’s greatest achievements, but the women who played a part in getting him there have gone unsung for too long. The fact that some of them were African-American is the surprise draw of this inspiring, Oscar-nominated account, which stars Taraji P Henson, Janelle Monae and Kevin Costner.
Tickets £5 on the door to include a complimentary drink. Doors open 7:00 pm.

And finally: two July poems
Midsummer Night Itch by N. M. Boedecker
Mosquito is out,
it’s the end of the day;
she’s humming and hunting
her evening away.
Who knows why such hunger
arrives on such wings
at sundown? I guess
it’s the nature of things.
Bed in Summer by Robert Louis Stevenson
In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?
