Thursday 6th August: in the Reading Room at 2:30pm – monthly ‘open’ meeting – more details below

Wednesday 19th August: leaving Stanhoe at 1:30pm, we are to explore Old Hunstanton on foot, following a “Treasure Trail”, following which we’ll adjourn to Caley Hall hotel for cream teas.

All our monthly meetings are open to ladies who may wish to visit, without obligation. Just come along – there’s no need to arrange it in advance. Bring a friend if you wish – and there’s no requirement to live in Stanhoe, we have members from several other villages.

If you would like more information on any aspect of the organisation, or our meetings and outings, please feel free to telephone Pamela (518033) or Geraldine (518025). We would be happy to help, and would love to meet you.

Stanhoe Gardens Open Day:–

Stanhoe Gardens Open Day on Saturday 6th June was a beautiful sunny but breezy day and a really enjoyable afternoon was had by everyone. We had a record number of visitors to the gardens, many of whom made very positive & appreciative comments.

A wonderful total of £2,649.02 was raised for church funds. The P.C.C. would like to thank all those who worked so hard to make the day a success and all who came to support the event.

Sandringham Stud: The recent guided tour of Sandringham stud organised by the village WI raised £430 for the dementia unit at Wells hospital, and our thanks go to everyone who contributed. A cheque will be presented to the dementia unit in the near future.

Stanhoe Flower Show:–

The 30th Stanhoe Flower Show will take place on Saturday 1st August in The Reading Room.

Entry is 50p, children free.

Prize giving will be at 4:00pm, after which there will be an auction of donated produce, and the raffle will be drawn.

Exhibitors are reminded that they will need to place their exhibits for judging between 9:00 & 10:00am. Donations of raffle prizes on the day would be appreciated.

Hope to see lots of you there!

WI open meeting:–

Thursday 6th August at 2:30pm – everyone is welcome to join the WI members at their open monthly meeting, to hear Lynn Mortimer. She will talk on “The life and laughs of a local journalist”, relating her experiences as a journalist on the East Anglian Times. There will be the usual raffle, and a bring & buy stall – these help us to cover the costs of hall hire and speakers’ fees. Refreshments will be served.

Memorial Service:–

A memorial service for Olga Ransom will be held at All Saints on Monday 10th August at 2:00pm.

Cake stall on the Green:–

At 11:00am on Friday 28th August, Stanhoe & Barwick WI will hold their annual cake stall, which also includes produce, preserves, and plants. This raises money for our Institute funds, to help us to supplement members’ subscriptions so that we can afford good speakers for our monthly meetings. Don’t be late – we sell out very quickly!

Brancaster Camera Club:–

Our Annual Print Exhibition will be held in Brancaster Staithe Village Hall on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th August, 2015 from 10:00am – 4:00pm daily.

The exhibition will be judged by Barbie Lindsay MPAGB AFIAP. Admission is free of charge. We hope as many people as possible will come along & see our work. Everyone is welcome.

August’s birthstone

The Peridot, gem of Libra

“The whitewashed walls were hot with light.
The room was the core of a chrysolite,
Burning and shimmering with fiery might.”
