The Stanhoe village flower show, 2014:-

The 2014 Flower Show has been fixed for Saturday 2nd August, and the new schedule has been put together with much thought.

Whilst the vegetable, fruit, and flower classes remain the same, the classes for flower arranging, cookery, crafts, art, and photography have all been updated.

We hope to have the schedules delivered to everyone in the village, but a spare copy can always be obtained, if needed, from the Show Secretary, Rosemary Brown.

Riot In The Reading Room?:-

A black eye, cuts and abrasions were sustained at a recent meeting in Stanhoe Reading Room!

A very interesting speaker was on hand to talk about her work, and to demonstrate her skills, which were in the art of stage make-up, with the emphasis on casualties.

Members of our village WI were shown how make up is applied realistically, and volunteers were then sought, and willingly came forward, to receive the “injuries” referred to above.

More information and photographs are on www. stanhoe. org

And finally:-

  • The word ‘March’ comes from the Roman ‘Mauritius’.

  • This was originally the first month of the Roman Calendar and was named after Mars, the god of War

  • The Anglo-Saxons called the month Hlyad monath which means Stormy Month – let’s hope that March is less stormy than January & February 2014!!
