The Flower Show
Plans are well in hand for the 2009 Stanhoe Flower Show to be held in the village hall on Saturday 1st August from 2–4.30pm.
Do come along and join us and see the varied exhibits that everyone has worked hard to produce. Refreshments will be available and it is a chance to catch up with friends and neighbours and have a sociable time. Many people enjoy the auction of produce held at 5pm.
Entry lists should be handed in before Wednesday 29th July please.
If you have mislaid your schedule please contact the Show Secretary Rosemary Brown, who has a few spare copies. Hope to see you there!
Norfolk Association of Village Halls
Would anyone be interested in becoming an executive member of the above Association. The duties would involve attending three meetings a year at County Hall, Norwich. Travel allowance for these is 30p per mile. If you would like further information in this regard please telephone Julian Goodey on 01953 860369.
Register of Electors
Each year the Electoral Registration Officer has to prepare a new Register of Electors and may need people to help with this as canvassers. The work involves the delivery of forms to all addresses within a defined area and any follow-up action that proves necessary, including the issue of reminders and, as a last resort, at least three door-knocks.
The process begins at the end of August and runs until late October. Canvassers are paid a set fee per property regardless of the number of visits required, plus mileage. Payment is made at the end of November.
Opportunities will not be available in all parts of the Borough but if you are interested and are willing to travel I would be glad to hear from you.
Applications are invited from all parts of the community but I have a particular need for anyone able to speak an Eastern European language.
PLEASE PHONE MARY COLANGELO ON 01553 616281.
Stanhoe Archive Update
The Stanhoe Archive is still going strong, cataloguing the hundreds of photographs, newspaper cuttings, and many other documents assembled by local residents over a period of many years. There have been a couple of delays because of changes in the systems we are using, but progress is still being made. We are hoping to arrange an evening in the autumn when village residents will be invited to the Reading Room for a presentation of the items we have recorded so far. This event will be advertised in Saints Alive closer to the time.
Advance Notice – Charity Fund Raising Event 22nd August
The Women’s Institute organises a charity fund raiser each year, and this year plans have been made for a village treasure hunt – following slightly cryptic clues on foot around Stanhoe, which we hope will be entertaining and educational – and making money for a local charity, which this year is Tapping House Hospice. There will also be stalls selling items in the village hall, and a raffle. There will also be cream teas served from 4pm in the village hall. The start will be from All Saints church at 2pm.
Donations of bric-a-brac, your own paintings and drawings, and possibly plants for sale would be appreciated – please contact Pamela on 518033 or Yvonne on 518148 if you can help, specifying which category or categories you can supply.
Wind Farm Update
The meeting at North Creake was held as advertised, on 2nd July, and several Stanhoe people attended, along with many from surrounding villages. In total about 80 people were present, and as a consequence, a committee of 12 has been formed, including a representative of Stanhoe, to set about organising a protest.

All are welcome to join in our fortnightly walks and cycle rides as follows: 22nd July, a morning beach walk (bring a picnic) at Burnham Overy Staithe.
