Parish Council meeting:–

Notes from the Parish Council meeting 11th September 2024

  • We were all sad to learn that our longest serving councillor, Rosemary Brown, has decided to stand down. Rosemary has been a parish councillor for well over 20 years and she has been a wonderful asset to the council and the village. Rosemary has been part of Stanhoe all her life, having lived in the village as a child and attended the village school. As well as her role as a Parish Councillor, she is a longstanding member of the WI, organiser of the Stanhoe Flower Show, and she has always been happy to lend a hand at any village event.
  • I am sure you would want to join me in thanking her sincerely for all her hard work on behalf of the village over the years. Her extensive knowledge of the community and thoughtful guidance has been hugely appreciated by us all and we will miss her very much. We wish her a very happy and peaceful retirement.
  • Rosemary’s resignation now leaves a vacancy for a new councillor. If you are interested in joining us please do contact Nicki Smith, Parish Clerk, to discuss the role further. Her email address is .
  • We had hoped to have the new village noticeboard up by now but as often happens there has been a delay with the manufacturer. I believe a delivery date is now imminent so with any luck you should see the result very soon. In addition there are to be signs at the three “gates” to the village which will allow village events to be publicised – these should be in place by the end of September.
  • You will see from the full minutes of the meeting that the PC is pursuing a number of projects, including pathways along Bircham Road, broadband for the village hall, a new SAM machine to monitor the speed of traffic through the village, development of a new website and much more. We are very keen to involve the community as much as possible and would like to hear the views of our residents on a number of topics. With this in mind we have decided to conduct a village survey – look out for a questionnaire in the coming weeks.
  • The next PC meeting will be held on 7th November 2024, at 6:00pm. Please do come along if you can and join the conversation.

are pleased to announce our first film for this Autumn season.

WILDING (PG) (Documentary):– on Monday 14th October at 7:30 pm.

Wilding is based on Isabella Tree’s 2018 memoir of how she and her husband Charlie

Burrell completely overhauled the 1400-acre Knepp estate he had inherited in Sussex. The first thing they were told when they took over the land was that they would never make a go of farming it, as the soil had been impoverished by over-intensive cultivation, so the couple decided to experiment with returning it to the wild.

The stunning camerawork and the fabulous wild-life photography make this film a joy to watch.

VINDICATION SWIM (PG) (BIOGRAPHY/DRAMA):– on Monday 11th November at 7:30pm.

The inspirational story of Mercedes Gleitze, the first British woman to swim the English Channel, and her battle against both the cold waters of the Channel and the oppressive society of 1920s England. When a rival claims to have performed the same feat and is shown to be lying, Mercedes’s own achievement is called into question, forcing her into a repeat performance, the “vindication swim” of the title. Vindication Swim is a triumph of storytelling, craftsmanship, and emotion. It’s a film that not only entertains but also inspires.
