On Good Friday morning, we look forward to welcoming pilgrims from the Student Cross organisation, who will have left Leicester on 23rd March on a walk of witness, carrying a heavy wooden cross, and who will call into our church for rest and refreshments, before finally finishing their pilgrimage at Walsingham that same evening.

For more information, contact the Minister, Rev. Dr. Richman Ncube on 01485 570232; or Church Stewards: Valerie Shackcloth on 518395, Judith Chaloner on 578630 or Elizabeth MacLeod on 578392.

STANHOE VILLAGE SCREEN:–

are pleased to announce our first film for this summer season.

THE COLOR PURPLE (12A) (musical) on Monday 13th May at 7:30 pm.

Billing itself as “a bold new take on the beloved classic”, this is Alice Walker’s novel reinterpreted as a musical. In 1909 Celie, a young black American girl, is given away in marriage by her abusive father to a local farmer, Albert, who treats her cruelly. Deliverance comes in the unexpected form of Albert’s mistress Shug Avery, a jazz singer who takes her away from her misery. The rough edges of Steven Spielberg’s 1985 adaptation have been softened but the evocative energy of this movie-musical’s three female leads is magical.

MEHM Trust (Stanhoe Village & Playing Field) NEWS:

If you have been out for a wander round the village in the last two weeks, you will have seen the lovely new gates at the entrance to the Playing Field. Work to install gate keeps and make the bolt easier needs to be carried out, but I’m sure you’ll agree it makes access to our valuable village amenity much easier for all our users. Along with the new chairs in the Hall, which have been well received, the gates were paid for with a grant from the Norfolk Community Trust Foundation so a big thank you to them. As part of the conditions of the Grant is that we have to report how many people currently use the Playing Field on a Monthly basis and you’ll be interested to know that I have worked out that is about 550 people who use it once if not twice a day each month! We anticipate that will increase now accessibility is better.

I’m Sarah from Our Public Records. We’ve just launched a massive free database of last names of people in the US that I wanted to let you know about.

We collected records of over 162000 names and created a database using AI and our own programming to help users find information such as origins, genealogy, etc.

I hope you have a moment to take a look. As I said, it’s completely free, so if you think you would find it useful, the link is :– https://ourpublicrecords.org/
