August 2024
Parish Council meeting:-
We have had a busy time in Stanhoe over the last couple of months, with the hugely successful D Day celebration on 8th June and Open Gardens on 13th July. Both events not only raised much needed funds for the Village Hall and the Church respectively, but also highlighted the generous contributions of time and energy in both the organising teams and participation on the day. Many individuals worked very hard to make them happen, and I know you would want to join me in thanking them for all their efforts. The Parish Council is glad to support these events and we are looking forward eagerly to the next one.
At our Parish Council meeting on 11th July we were delighted to welcome a new Parish Councillor, Nigel Girling. Nigel has lived in the village for the last four years having been a regular visitor for many years previously. This means we now have a full complement on the council.
Amongst matters discussed was the purchase of a new noticeboard for the village for which we received funding from Jacks Lane Windfarm. The order has now been placed and hopefully you will see this at the village hall in the coming months.
Road safety is always on the agenda and we have agreed to start the process of creating footpaths to make the village safer for pedestrians. The Bircham Road from the pond in the direction of Bircham will most likely be the first phase and we will be working on the plans for this, and methods of funding, over the next few months. As soon as we have some proposals we will be in touch to ask for your thoughts on the matter.
The data from the SAM machine, which is moved each month to a different location, shows that there are still far too many vehicles considerably exceeding the speed limit on village roads. Accordingly we will be bidding for further funding to purchase a new permanent SAM machine which will be located at the entrance to the village on Docking Road. In the meantime we will be arranging for a new pole to be erected at this location so that the temporary SAM machine can be mounted there. This will alert drivers as they enter the speed limit and hopefully slow them down more quickly.
For further information please do take a look at the minutes of the last meeting which are available on stanhoe.norfolkparishes.gov.uk and, of course, if you would like to contact the Parish Council for any reason you are invited to email the parish clerk at stanhoe.council@gmail.com.

Stanhoe Open Gardens 2024:-
Approximately 50 years after Pen and Mark Roche and team started Stanhoe Open Gardens, I am glad to say it continues, without them but with them very much in our minds.
This year we had 10 gardens open, all different in size, shape and style but what they all had in common was, according to our visitors, the friendly welcome at each one. At The Village Hall, the Cream Teas were very popular and beautifully organised and the Pimms Bar, in its new location in the tent on the Playing Field lent kindly by CITB Collage did well despite the unpredictable weather. The Plant Stall, always popular with our visitors, some bringing us photos of plants they’d bought in previous years. The Cake Stall looked magnificent with a very professional looking display of delicious goodies’
The Church, the focal point of the fundraising, looked well loved and tended thanks to the loyal parishioners and others. Flower arrangements graced the Porch and Font and two small Botanical Books and Jams & Preserves Stalls, Raffle Tickets and Gardens Tickets tables created a real buzz.
To everyone who took part, from the very noble washer upper at Cream Teas, the chair carriers and table movers, the cake bakers and tea makers, the ticket sellers, the garden openers and behind the sceners, to everyone who contributed in any way, a HUGE THANK YOU.
Final figure to be confirmed but approximately £3,700 was raised to go towards the upkeep of All Saints’ Stanhoe Church and Churchyard.
