Saints Alive: Stanhoe and Barwick Newsletter

May 2022

Parish Council Matters:–

Finally we are emerging from the shadows of a long ‘winter’ with a glimmer of hope that our lives are returning to some sort of normality at long last. We have a number of dates to look forward to, celebrate and enjoy. These include the following:–

  • The next PC Meeting is also our annual AGM when we hope to make more friends by serving free drinks and nibbles. This will take place on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00pm after our (paperwork) meeting, so you can just come for the celebration if you wish. We will also have representatives of the office of the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk who will be presenting a commemorative plaque to the Duck Inn who did so much for the community during the lockdowns. Come along, have your say and share a drink or two with us!
  • Village Jubilee barbeque lunch, drinks and games at the Playing Fields and Village Hall on Saturday June 4th. Many residents, led by Mike Wilson, are working hard to make it a special and memorable occasion. Details will be attached with this and further issues of Saints Alive. NB Parking will be available on the Playing Field.
  • Stanhoe Gardens Open day is on Saturday June 18th commencing at 2:00 pm. More information is also in this issue of Saints Alive. As usual parking is available on the Playing Field and in the All Saints Church car park.
  • Meanwhile the SAM 2 (we ought to a have a village competition to give it a better name) speed sign counts away without causing direct offence as drivers are not identified. In March the sign was at Longwall Barn facing Bircham, so traffic passing the sign had already been through the 40mph zone before getting to the 30 mph area. A total of 13,804 were recorded of which 50 per cent were within I mph of the (30) limit. The fastest vehicle was recorded at 55 mph on Wednesday March 9th at 6:40 am. There is little doubt that the sign is having a calming effect.
  • Go To Town: At our last meeting we discussed (as recorded in the Minutes) the ways possibly to improve access to the bus service for Stanhoe residents. If you have any comments or suggestions to make regarding this service, please contact Wayne Leighton.
  • Also if anyone has continuing broadband issues, please let us know as there still appear to be a few ‘silent’ spots in the village.
  • Any other issues If you have any observations or suggestions for the Council to consider, to improve life in Stanhoe, please do not hesitate to contact our Clerk Wayne Leighton at ‘parishclerk@stanhoe.org’.

Burnham Market Surgery:–

As you may be aware there have been a number of changes at the surgery over recent months not least moving to our new site on the Creake Road.

After some initial teething problems with the IT and telephone infrastructure beyond our control, we are now up and running.

The Burnhams partnership have also taken on the GP Contract at Wells Health Centre from April 2022 with 3 GPs retiring. This is alongside Dr Marcus Brudenell having retired from Burnham Market on the 1st April 2022. We have had to make some difficult decisions to ensure both sites are adequately covered.

We wanted to reassure you that we have successfully recruited and have appointed 2 new GP’s and a nurse practitioner at Burnham Market.

  • Dr Ferdinand Becker will be joining us in June 2022 and will take on Dr Marcus Brudenell’s list at Burnham Market.

  • Dr Mark Steggles will be joining us in May 2022 and will be taking on Dr David Ince’s list at Burnham Market.

  • Drs Sarah Gorrod and Catherine Simpson will remain at Burnham Market.

The Burnhams Surgery and Wells Health Centre will continue to run as separate organisations.

In April and May 2022, Dr David Ince will be working exclusively at Wells to cover prior to substantive GPs being in place.

From June 2022, Dr David Ince will be predominantly at Wells but will offer some sessions and holiday cover at Burnham Market, these are to be confirmed.

To ensure his current list has adequate GP cover, Dr Mark Steggles will be assigned to his list also.

We are also being joined in April 2022 by Sister Julie Randall who will lead the nurses and is an experienced nurse practitioner. This is in addition to Sister Carole Ransom who has cut down her hours, Sister Holly Allen, Sister Marie Cressy, Sister Naomi Weston and our health care assistant, Allie Coules.

We are also fortunate to have the services of Drs David Bennett and Douglas Pepple who are offering locum cover during this period.
