Festive crooner

Rat Pack numbers enliven WI meeting.

The sound reverberated around our newly refurbished Reading Room when Stanhoe and Barwick WI members and guests held their December meeting.

As members sipped warming mulled wine Martyn Shults raised his sonorous voice in appreciation of “The Rat Pack”, celebrity singers of the 1950s and 1960s.

Little bits of personal biographies, and anecdotes, were interspersed between renditions of “The Lady is a Tramp”, “Memories are made of this”, “Born Free”, “Softly I will leave you”, and the finale of “And now the end is near”.

Many memories were revived as members enjoyed the programme.

The room had been festively decorated for us by our president, a Christmas message board for signing had been prepared for us by our secretary, and festive fare had been provided by members. Thus our follow-on business meeting was soon rapidly despatched.

We all left in Christmas mode looking forward to a Christmas lunch the following day.
