Two photos of men in the harvest fields at Station Farm, Stanhoe in the 1930's.

Chris Branch says in 2011:
"In about 1989 my mother Miggie wrote a commentary on "Harvest in the 1930's " using many of her Station Farm photos now scanned onto this site. She did this to assist someone who was to deliver a talk on that subject.

Her Father: Tom Calver was reputed to have shot a right and left Woodcock, a rare feat and was rewarded with a bottle of Bols and a tie.

Miggie said he would "mob" (shout at and admonish) the men who were sent to "open the field" for throwing Carborundum stones (used for sharpening their scythes) at the rabbits fleeing from the noisy binder which would be drawn by horses.

"On the right is her father, and my Grandfather, Thomas Henry Calver, with his 12 bore double barreled shot gun, the very gun that remains in the family to this day.

Read Miggie's vivid account now in the separate Album on this website.
