The Bungalow, Stanhoe. Postcard, Raphael Tuck & Sons, 1950.

The Bungalow on the Bircham Road, now named Three Chimneys, is a fine building whose Arts and Crafts style suggests that it dates to the 1920s or before. It was probably built for Miss Muriel Savory, the sister of Clement Savory of Barwick Hall.

Rosemary Brown remembers being taken to visit Miss Savory and her companion Miss Bewes at The Bungalow in the 1950s. Muriel was in her eighties at that time.

Doreen Bullock in her memories of Stanhoe mentions that Hospital Sunday teas were held “in the garden of Miss Muriel Savory and Miss Daisy Savory”. Rosemary says it was definitely Miss Muriel who lived in The Bungalow.

Dennis Ford lived here from the late 1960s.
