Arthur Walker in 2017 near the site of the Beaufighter crash in Station Road that was witnessed by his father. At 11.26 am on 17 September 1941, pilot Stanley Birtles and his ground-crew passenger William Bourne died when Beaufighter IC T3351 WR-U broke up in mid-air, probably as a result of unauthorised acrobatics during a test flight.
