Friar’s Thorne House, Burnham Road, Docking in May 2011.

Charles Ward lived and farmed here in the 1930s. He married Helen Calver, mother of Dick Calver, in 1934, after which they moved to Methwold and raised a large family.

Chris Branch says in 2011:

Uncle Charlie Ward b.1890 in Upwell Cambs was one of several sons born to Jewson Ward and his wife Eliza. Jewson Ward according to the 1891 census was “a Dealer in Cattle” from Boston, Lincs.

Helen Calver had not moved to London like her other sisters, but she was then mother to Dick Calver, and she had nursed her mother Edith during her last years.

The Ward family have multiplied and live on.
