Fibre delay

Stanhoe’s superfast broadband will have to wait until September.

June 2014 was supposed to be the month in which BT’s Infinity fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband service came to the Docking telephone exchange. But June came and went

Now the BT Openreach website is showing September as the expected arrival date.

As we have reported before, it looks as if the optical fibre cable needed for Infinity is already in place in a trench along Docking Road. When the system eventually goes live, anyone who wants to pay extra for the service should get download speeds of 24–76 Mbit/s.

The fibre connection point in Stanhoe is the green cabinet near the corner of Docking Road and Parson’s Lane. Houses close to the cabinet will see the fastest speeds.

The slowest speeds will probably be found around the bottom of Church Lane, since from the cabinet the overhead cables run along Docking Road to the Pit and then down Bircham Road. But since our overhead wiring is a complete rat’s nest, don’t take my word for it.
