A report from the Parish Council meeting of 10 July.

Planning ~ The application for three holiday cottages at Mill House was approved by the Borough Planning Committee. Because of a Borough Council deadline, Councillors considered a new application for the solar panels at Stanhoe Hall at a short meeting earlier but were concerned about some contradictions within the application. They submitted their comments and indicated that if the application were granted the site must be screened with evergreen planting.

Wind Farm ~ The developers, RES, have confirmed that it is most unlikely that properties in Parsons Lane, not eligible for the proposed Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS), will be brought into the scheme. There was some concern over the manner in which Barwick Road has been widened – it was expected that “grasscrete” or a similar material would be used so that the verges would appear to be grass; this would be raised at the next meeting of the Community Liaison Group later in the month.

Safer Norfolk Area Panel (SNAP) ~ The bi-monthly meeting was held in July at which the focus was on problems within Hunstanton. There was very little change in the area crime statistics for the period. All residents were advised to be cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls drawing their attention to attractive investment opportunities. Most, if not all, are scams of one sort or another and the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it is” is almost always the case!

Emergency Plan ~ The village emergency plan was adopted by the Parish Council, a copy of which is held by the councillors and the clerk to assist them in dealing with any local event which does not warrant assistance from other sources.

Commemoration of the Outbreak of the First World War ~ at 11.00 am on Friday, 1st August, there will be a short Remembrance Service at Stanhoe War Memorial to commemorate those who last their lives in the Great War. A wreath will be laid together with a cross for each of those who died in the conflict. There will be a Service of Commemoration at Sedgeford Church at 11.00 am on Sunday, 3rd August.

Trees by the Pond ~ A request has been made to trim the trees at the east end of the village pond. This was deferred until the next meeting to enable councillors to be better informed.

Dog Fouling ~ An increase of dog fouling within the village has been reported. Residents and visitors alike are asked to “pick up” – there is a dog bin for this purpose at the village pond – and are reminded that it is a fixed penalty offence with a fine of £50 for a first offence rising to potentially £1,000 for subsequent offences and non-payment. The police and the Borough Council are taking this matter seriously throughout the area.

Date of Next Meeting ~ The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 11th September commencing at 7.00 pm.
