Duck changes

Stanhoe’s pub is under new management.

At the end of his first year in charge, Julian Rivett has moved on from the Duck Inn to pastures new. The village pub is now under the management of Sandy Butcher and Berni Morritt, licensees of the Wiveton Bell among other establishments.

The Duck now looks rather different, as Julian has taken with him a number of his own belongings, and the bar is more spacious because the display of local flint artefacts is now temporarily housed elsewhere. The payment point desk has also gone (although the staff will still take customers’ payments!).

There is still a warm welcome and an excellent meal to be had, and several of the original staff are still in post. The menu has changed, and is now largely the same as that at The Bell, with generous portion sizes, local produce, and a good selection including vegetarian options, although not changing daily as before.

Menu items range from soup (vegetarian) and granary bread at £5.45 to smoked shell on prawns at £7.95 for starters, light lunches from bruschetta of chicken and bacon at £6.95 to dressed crab salad at £13.45, and main courses from beer battered haddock and hand cut chips at £12.95 to a 10 oz rib eye steak at £19.95. Delicious desserts are all priced at £6.
