Fever pitch
No, not the disastrous World Cup, but last-minute work at the Duck Inn.

“Welcome to the Duck Inn, Stanhoe” is painted next to the door
Work at the pub is going full speed ahead as opening day draws near. Builders’ vans by the dozen are to be seen outside at all hours.
There’s also a handsome new sign, showing two ducks (species unknown).
On the hottest day of the year so far, all this activity is enough to bring on a serious thirst…
