Meet the landlord

These are the new faces of Stanhoe’s re-named Duck Inn: Roger Castel (l) and Julian Rivett (r). One or both of the pair will always be on hand to welcome visitors, says landlord Julian: “We want to create a traditional pub atmosphere with mature staff who remember their customers’ names.”
The menu will be straightforward, says Roger, with moderate prices and an emphasis on local fish. There is seating capacity for 60 diners, though around 40 will be the maximum when the pub first re-opens.
As the photos below show, recent progress has been rapid, though there is still a lot to be done before the planned opening date at the end of June.
Customers enter the bar area via the new main entrance off the car park. Beyond the bar is a series of dining rooms, and upstairs are two bedrooms for B&B.
Julian says he is open to suggestions about how the new pub can play its part in Stanhoe life. He will be happy to supply newspapers, for instance, and has suggested a vegetable stall in due course.
