Dog and Duck?

Stanhoe’s pub may change its name.

Dog and Duck pub signThe Crown Inn may have a different name by the time it re-opens at Easter.

Behind the decision may be the fact that local chef Chris Coubrough, who is not connected with the Stanhoe Crown, already runs the Crown Inn at East Rudham and the Crown Hotel at Wells.

A reliable source has told stanhoe.org that the new name has not yet been fixed, but will reflect Stanhoe’s character or history.

Appropriate names might therefore include a variant on the traditional Dog and Duck (see illustration), the Duck and Duck, the Sir Hervey or perhaps the Weekend Retreat. Please your suggestions.

According to the website norfolkpubs.co.uk, the Crown was known as the Rose and Crown until at least 1881.
