Landlord named

Burnham Market builder takes over the Crown.

As Page Clowser prepared for his last evening behind the bar at the Crown Inn on 11 December, the new landlord was officially named as Burnham Market builder Julian Rivett.

Terry Stork, Trade Director with Elgood’s brewery, confirmed that Mr Rivett has taken over the tenancy.

The aim is still to maintain the Crown’s village character and avoid the “gastropub” label, Mr Stork said, while making sure that the pub sells enough food to make it financially viable. The caravan site will remain as it is, and none of the land attached to the pub has been sold.

The brewery’s architect and Mr Rivett will visit the Crown on Wednesday to discuss the redevelopment work.

Likely changes include a larger dining area taking in the whole of the front of the pub and the existing sitting room, Mr Stork said. The bar would move to a new drinking area at the rear, and the main entrance would move to the car park side of the building.

“My thanks go to Page for his 25 years’ service at the Crown,” Mr Stork said.
