Bags of gold
The WI’s village treasure hunt on 22 August raised more than £600 for The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, according to WI treasurer Diane Punter.
A sunny afternoon brought visitors from Hunstanton, King’s Lynn and beyond to pit their wits against a challenging set of clues set by WI president Pamela Austin. Children under 10 enjoyed a pirate-themed treasure hunt of their own.
Cream teas, a raffle, and stalls selling bric-a-brac, plants and local honey gave a big boost to the money raised.

Mr and Mrs Baker of Brancaster Staithe took home a £20 Morrison’s voucher as their prize for winning the adults’ treasure hunt. They scored 45.5 points out of a possible 48.
Close runners-up Kate, Nigel, William and Oliver Scott of King’s Lynn, with 44 points, were well pleased with their prize of a champagne tea at the Hoste Arms, Burnham Market.
Cameron Goodchild (6) of Stanhoe won the junior competition.
Raffle prizes included a meal for two at the Crown Inn; a set of lead crystal glasses from Aldiss of Fakenham; a voucher from Fakenham Garden Centre; cinema tickets from Central Cinema, Fakenham; a gift from Pentney House, Burnham Market; and a pot donated by Geraldine Doughty of Stanhoe Pottery, who also gave a pottery demonstration during the afternoon.

Teas, raffle and stalls in the Village Hall
Many of the visitors said they had driven through Stanhoe in the past, and were glad of a chance to stop and find out more about the village. Even Stanhoe residents discovered sights and facts they hadn’t known before.
Thanks to everyone who helped with setting up and testing the treasure hunt, parking cars, running stalls and making tea, and especially to the visitors who gave their time and money to help Tapping House and learn more about Stanhoe.
