Page calls time

Page Clowser of the Crown Inn will retire in January.

After 25 years at the Crown Inn, Page Clowser will retire in January 2010.

The Crown is one of 40 pubs owned by brewery Elgood & Sons of Wisbech.

Terry Stork, trade director at Elgood’s, said: “We want to retain the Crown as a village pub. We have no plans at all to turn it into a gastropub”.

The brewery is now interviewing prospective new tenants, and there has been a lot of interest, Mr Stork said.

He added that likely changes would include an upgrade to the kitchen and a larger dining area, but stressed that this would depend on the final agreement between the brewery and the new tenant.

Page and Sarah took over the Crown on 5 November 1984. Wendy Eckersley has worked in the kitchen for more than 20 years.

A thank-you from Sarah

Sarah Clowser writes:

“I would like to thank everyone for their custom and friendship for the 22 years I was at The Crown.”

“I officially retired in 2007 after foot operation No. 2.”

“Wendy, who helped me with the catering, continues to run the kitchen.”
