Mr Gordon Batchelor, photographed in the 1980's, worked in the garage in Docking, and lived in a bungalow called Windermere in Cross Lane, Stanhoe, which was built as a home for himself and his wife Gertie, nee Gertie Rose, a Stanhoe resident for many years.

Gertie Rose was the daughter of Mr George Rose who was gamekeeper on the Stanhoe Hall Estate, and lived for some years at Keepers Lodge (later called Mill House ) in the Burnham Road. George Rose later moved to premises in Cross Lane once lived in by the Everitt family, who were wheelwrights, and which in the twenty first century is called Vine Cottage.

Gordon Batchelor was a keen gardener and in retirement was treasurer for the church for some years.
