We previously described this as "Stanley Ayres (right) in uniform: Royal Engineers or Third Norfolk Rifle Volunteer Corps, 1914". Following Ian Hook's comment below, however, it's clear that these are both Lancashire Fusiliers – the cap badges are unmistakable.

    Thank you Mr Hook. Having checked what a Lancashire Fusiliers cap badge looks like I can see you're correct about the regiment. Your interpretation of the date is interesting too.

    They are both Lancashire Fusiliers, taken c1918-1922
