Stanhoe CIP

Our new, modern computer is now open for business, and sessions will be, as previously advertised, in the Reading Room on Tuesdays 10–11.30am and Fridays 8.30–10pm.

If you don’t want to use the computer, or you don’t see how you could benefit, then do come along and join volunteers and other residents of Stanhoe for tea or coffee and biscuits (for which a small charge will be made), and enjoy a chat, at the times shown for the CIP. Computing is not mandatory!

Rumours for the year ahead

As we all know, village people thrive on rumours. Listeners to the Archers will no doubt know all about this. Instead of New Year resolutions, here are a few of the rumours circulating at the moment.

1. The Crown is to be renovated by a Burnham Market property developer. Rumour has it that it will become an extremely posh restaurant for those able to afford the prices. However, latest news is that The Crown will remain as a typical village pub.
2. John, our honorary litter collector, is almost being overwhelmed by the amounts of rubbish on the verges. He is contemplating advertising for volunteers for a litter gang to help keep the place tidy.
3. Allegedly, the police have not been very supportive of our Community Speed Committee. Inside information promises more help to reduce vehicles speeding through the village.
4. It is said that the Bircham Road racetrack between the 30 and 40 speed signs is to close when the 40 sign is replaced by a 30mph sign.
5. The B1155 through the village will be be re-surfaced in 2010.
6. Wind turbines as tall as the London Eye are to be built in the countryside between Docking and Syderstone. They will be visible from Stanhoe. Also, our green lanes will be churned up by the lorries involved in the construction – unless you object to these onshore wind farms. Sites nearest to Stanhoe will be along the ancient green track known as Jack’s Lane. Mr Harrold of Barwick Hall Farm is the farmer concerned.
7. Some time ago Stanhoe and Barwick were to be amalgamated as Stanhoe & Barwick Parish Council. This was because the Barwick Parish Meeting did not seem to function. Maybe 2010 will see its formation.
8. The CITB swimming pool used by many villagers will soon close.
9. A Bircham Road footway, first proposed in 1970, may yet be constructed this century.
10. Dog owners are to become more responsible and clear up mess as well as prevent their animals chasing pedestrians and cyclists.
11. The gaps in hedges around the village may be closed as landowners begin re-planting.
12. We could lose the library van if more people do not use it.
13. Docking Waste Centre is now scheduled to close in June. Use the tip as much as possible from now until June.
14. Finally, not a rumour but a fact, one lady in Stanhoe will be receiving a card from the Queen this year. Yes, our first centenarian.

“Sing for Joy!” Concert

On Saturday 15th May at Salle church a concert of harmony singing will take place. Proceeds will go to the Cromer charity “About with friends”, which helps youngsters with learning difficulties to improve their job prospects and social lives. Come and see this wonderful church – and possibly see some singers you recognise!

Barbecue

Residents are reminded that the village owns a barbecue! If we should have a “barbecue summer” this year, or if you are just prepared to risk the weather, then the equipment (and a cook) can be booked with Don Bridge on 518894.

Conservation Areas

The suggestion has been made that Stanhoe could be eligible to be granted the status of a conservation village, and that this might be discussed at the Parish Annual Meeting, so please come and make your views known.

Parish Annual Meeting

To be held on Thursday 22nd April at the Reading Room, with wine and cheese. Hear what the Parish Council has been doing for the village and give it your ideas for the future.

Burnham Market Area Community Car Scheme

Late news – the winners of the January draw came from Burnham Market and Brancaster Staithe.

Brancaster Camera Club

If you are interested in photography but have been unable to attend Camera Club meetings on Mondays, you may like to know that for 2010 and beyond, the meeting night has changed to TUESDAY at 7.30pm in Brancaster Staithe/Burnham Deepdale village hall. We meet approximately on alternate weeks, all are welcome (no particular experience required), and a programme of meeting dates, speakers, competitions and other events is obtainable from Sue Till 01485 210013.

From the 1st June 2010 a volunteer is sought to take over the responsibility for typing this newsletter and also delivering same to the deliverers around the village. Syd Sylvia and I have been doing the job for many years and feel we have done our fair share. So, if you want this newsletter to continue, please ring Yvonne on 518148 for further information.
